Brevet: Flight of the Finger Lakes 300k
May 18 @ 6:00 am - 9:00 pm
Starting at the Hangar Theater, site of an airport started in 1912, the ride proceeds south to Harris Hill above Elmira. Harris Hill is the Soaring Capital of America, famous as a site for glider flights. Proceeding westward the route heads toward Hammondsport where you will pass the Glenn Curtis Museum. Curtis, an early aviation pioneer also made bikes and motorcycles. Continuing in a northerly direction along the eastern shore of Keuka Lake you will eventually get to the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge, home to a diverse population of birds including herons, bald eagles and osprey among others. The route then passes through Auburn, NY with a brief visit to Harriet Tubman National Park named for the famed abolitionist who helped many slaves in their flight to freedom on the Underground Railroad.
