Andrejs Ozolins Memorial
New York State Parks has designed a beautiful information kiosk at the trailhead for the Black Diamond Trail in Ithaca, and the kiosk will be a lasting tribute to former longtime Finger Lakes Cycling Club member and community organizer Andrejs Ozolins. Construction was completed in the fall of 2021. In addition to honoring Andrejs, this project will help identify the trailhead location, which has been poorly marked until now. It will also create a nice meeting spot with benches, shade, plantings, and even a bike tool station, to be enjoyed by all trail users and community members.
Many people and organizations have donated funds to this trailhead kiosk project. Thank you to individual community members, the Finger Lakes Cycling Club, the Southern Tier Bicycle Club, the Friends of Stewart Park, and Cayuga Ski & Cyclery for their donations. Special thanks to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation for additional funding.
